Description of the Penstocks
The penstock features a gate which is resis-ant to hydraulic impact and is installed into a frame. A shell ring (of circular or rectangular cross section) with or without a connecting flange is welded to the sliding gate frame. Penstocks are manufactured from stainless steel AISI 304 or AISI 316.
Operating principle of the Penstocks
The gate moves freely along the frame on a screw as a resultof the electric drive shaft or the manual flywheel rotation. The screw can be fixed directly on the gate moving with it, or it can be fixed to a bronze nut which screws onto the screw rod. The screw can be protected by a casing if necessary.
The gate is sealed on its perimeter. This seal is resistant to corrosive media and provides water tightness of the structure when in the closed position. Tight adherence of the seal is ensured by polymeric wedges located pair-wise on the gate and frame. Wedge material prevents “sticking” of the wedges to each other as a result of prolonged situations in the closed position of the sliding gate.
The sliding gates may have a manual or electric drive. Electric drive power is determined by the required opening and closing speed of the sliding gate.
The system may be mounted in a concrete casting, fastening to the channel walls with anchor bolts or on a flange mounting.
